My niece Lauren turned 1 on the 18th of this month. My brother and his wife threw her a small birthday party on Monday, and I got to be there to watch her eat her first birthday cake! What a crack-up this girl is! She has always been excited about food - starts hyperventalating when she sees you coming with her dinner plate - but I still couldn't help belly laughing as she attacked her cake. She didn't imediately dig in the second we put the cake in front of her. In fact, her first move was to eat all the pink frosting lumps off the front of it...
She didn't want to rush the experience I guess, because she just kept daintily testing each clump of frosting, and slowly covering her mouth in the gooey good stuff...
It's a frosting mustache!
Then, of course, her adorable little cousin finally broke free of his mother's grasp and started creeping up on that cake. His parents managed to keep him at bay for quite a while, but that didn't stop him from being in the rest of the birthday cake shots that I took...always looming in the background with the same look on his face!
If you haven't noticed, as cute as these pictures are, Lauren still hasn't managed to get any CAKE. This is ALL frosting that she is consuming...so her dad decided to help her out:
CAKE!
"Thanks Dad!"
Now all of these are endearing shots and everything, but this next one is a definate favorite, and I'll tell you why. It's because she's so excited about that cake that she's watching it all the way to her mouth with crossed eyes!
It might help the funniness of this shot if I showed you the original photo I took. Her cousins, now gathered around her birthday cake to help her finish it off, were oblivious to this scavaging little monster in the corner. So cute!!!
I love my niece!!! And I relate to her in so many ways! I bet if someone had a camera trained on me when I was little, they would have more than one shot of me doing the same thing with my food! Ha!
